Who runs this contest

The chickenblue Flash Fiction Contest is run by a private individual based in the Netherlands. By entering the contest you agree to these terms. Questions? Email us at hello@chickenblue.com.

Eligibility

  • The contest is open to all writers worldwide who write in English.
  • There is no age restriction, though entrants under 18 should have parental consent.
  • The organiser and anyone directly involved in judging are not eligible to enter.

Submissions

  • One entry per person per competition round.
  • Stories must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • No AI generated content. Work must be entirely your own.
  • Stories should be under 1000 words. We're flexible — take a few more if you need them.
  • By submitting you confirm your story meets all of the above criteria.
  • We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not meet these criteria.

Intellectual property

Authors retain full copyright of their work at all times. By entering you grant chickenblue a non-exclusive licence to publish winning and shortlisted entries on this website and associated social media channels. This licence does not transfer ownership of your work.

Prizes

  • The prize for the current round is €88 for 1st place.
  • Prizes are paid via Wise (wise.com). Please ensure you are able to receive payments via Wise before entering — we are unable to offer alternative payment methods.
  • Payment will be made within 30 days of the winner being announced.
  • Prizes are non-transferable and no cash alternative will be offered.
  • Winners must respond within 14 days of being contacted or the prize may be forfeited.

Judging

All entries are judged by the organiser. The decision of the judge is final. No correspondence will be entered into regarding judging decisions. We reserve the right to withhold a prize if the standard of entries is not deemed sufficient.

Feedback

Drumstick ratings are offered to entrants who opt in via the submission form. Ratings are given in good faith and are subjective. One drumstick = Needs more work. Two drumsticks = You're on to something. Three drumsticks = Well done sir or madam.

Changes to these terms

We reserve the right to update these terms at any time. Any changes will be posted on this page. Continued participation in the contest constitutes acceptance of any revised terms.
